The Pima County Housing Center has recently broken ground on a $2.85 million project for a pair of senior and veterans housing projects.

District 5 Pima County Supervisor Richard Elias, Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothchild, and other local and state officials recently broke ground on the project, which will include 20 apartments to accommodate low-income seniors who live with a caregiver or family member.  

The complexes, which will be built adjacent to the TMM Family Services main campus on North Country Club Road, was funded by $545,000 in voter approved bond funding and $708,000 in HOME funds federal grant money.

“Everyone deserves a high-quality, safe place to live, especially our veterans and seniors” Pima Housing Center Director Marcos Ysmael said in a press release.

The apartment complexes will include 10 units that will have amenities for disabled residents. Both sites will have access to TMM Family Services dining facility, learning center and athletic facilities. The units will also feature split-level floor plans with appliances, phone, internet and cable services.

The housing projects are expected to be complete by early spring of 2018 and potential residents may begin applying for an apartment space on Feb. 1, 2018.
