The city of Avondale and Kids At Hope will host the annual Time Travelers’ Youth Summit in November to educate and empower students as they experience “mental time travel” as a way to think about their future.

The summit, to be held on Nov. 7, will offer the opportunity for sixth- through eighth-grade students led by internationally known presenter Spencer Gorin. The program allows students to focus on their future in four different "destinations," including hobbies and recreation, home and family, education and career and community service, according to an announcement.

This year’s summit will also feature Erika Camacho as keynote speaker whose experiences include being a student of teacher Jaime Escalante. Escalante and his students were portrayed in the film "Stand and Deliver."

Avondale and Southwest Valley area students were given the opportunity to invite six students and a chaperone to attend the summit and will go back to their schools to share their experiences.

According to the city, the summit is expected to involve over 23 schools and attract 160 students with estimated impact on over 11,000 students.

The summit will be held at Estrella Mountain Community College on North Dysart Road in Avondale from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information email kenna@kidsathope.org or call 602-674-0026.
