The City of Chandler’s Solid Waste Department recently marked the third year of its Trashion Fashion Show, which features garments made from recyclable materials, as part of the city’s effort to bring awareness to recycling.

The fashion show, held last month, featured designers who modeled their fashions made from repurposed and discarded materials to compete for creativity, design, craftsmanship and an environmental fact provided by each contestant. Categories included ages 10-13, 14-17 and adult.

Winners included Nicolette Tate in the age 10-13 category. She modeled a gown she created from plastic mesh produce bags, shopping bags, trash bags, bread ties, plastic milk tabs and paper and foam plates.

In the 14-17 category, Gabrielle Rogers won for her garment made of plastic grocery bags, packing paper and cardboard.

Terrilynn Perry won for the second year in a row in the adult category. Perry’s design for this year’s Trashion Fashion Show was a gown made of newspaper, dried split peas, cardboard, plastic bags and jute twine.

Prizes for this year’s contest included gifts from The Hair Loft, Mindful Skin and Spa, Teavana, Dairy Queen, Body Shop, Justice, Fuzzwigs and Kendra Scott Jewelry.
