The city of Mesa will be filled with bagpipes and plaid as the Red Mountain Branch Library hosts Scots-tober Fest and Outlander Day this month.
In honor of the Celts historic ties to Halloween, the library will feature a Scottish-themed event with guest speakers, workshops on Scottish genealogy, travel, books and Scottish whiskey, which will take place at the library on Oct. 28.
Scots-tober Fest events include information on Scottish genealogy, dance, travel and culture presented by the Caledonian Society of Phoenix and a special Outlander celebration to go along with the popular Highland time travel book series by Scottsdale resident Diana Galbaldon.
The event schedule is as follows: Outlander Photo Shoot and Editing Workshop, 10:30 a.m.-noon; Scottish Genealogy 101, 11 a.m.-noon; Outlander Book Discussion and Trivia Game, noon-1 p.m.; Scots Who Left a Stain on History with author Lain Lundy, 1-2 p.m.; Outlander Tour Travelogue featuring Lois Wallace with Authentic Celtic Travels from 1-2 p.m.; Personal Genealogy 1-on-1 Session, 1-3 p.m., guests explore their family history with a professional genealogist; It’s Whisky, Not Whiskey, 2-3 p.m.; Make A Wee Scottie Dog Card, 2-4 p.m.; and Scottish Step-Dancing Lecture and Lesson, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
