The city of Goodyear is expecting over 300 volunteers to participate in national Make a Difference Day this year, marking the 10th year residents take on community service projects.
Community members of all ages will participate in 15 different community service projects throughout the city as they join in the national day of giving back, according to a press release.
According to the city, volunteers will work on projects organized by Carrie Lumia, Goodyear’s Wellness and Volunteer Coordinator. She has matched local needs with volunteers to organize projects such as planting a garden at the fire station and painting fencing and railings.
“Goodyear has such a generous spirit,” Lumia said in a press release. “Each year we see people come together, dedicated to giving back through volunteerism. It just goes to show you how much you can transform the community with just a few hours of donated time.”
Last year, over 400 volunteers participated in Goodyear’s Make a Difference Day and donating 1,600 hours of time.
First celebrated in 1992, Make a Difference Day has become the largest national day of giving back, according to the release. The day involves people in cities throughout the country volunteering for various community service projects.
