The Surprise City Council is creating a panel to honor deceased community members who have worked hard to make the area a better place, the city reported.
The Honoring an Exceptional Leader Task Force will take the names of people who have had a major impact in the city and use them to name parks, roadways, awards, facilities and other structures around the city.
The task force will include the head of the Planning and Zoning Commission, the head of the Arts and Cultural Advisory Commission, the head of the Community Recreation Advisory Commission, the assistant city manager, city attorney or designee, and public works director.
One of the group's first projects will be to find a way to honor Mark A. Coronado, the late Community and Recreation Services director. He was the department head from 2000 until his death in June. He had also held the positions of the interim city manager, acting public works director, acting communications director and acting economic development director.
The first meeting for the Honoring an Exceptional Leader Task Force will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 14 at the City Hall Community Room. The meeting is open to the public.
