All Avondale middle school and high school students with a passion for entrepreneurship can sign up for the city's Youth Startup Weekend.

CO+HOOTS Foundation is hosting the grassroots initiative at its co-working site in Phoenix from Nov. 10-12, the city reported. This city of Avondale-sponsored event will be a chance for young entrepreneurs to put their bright ideas to work by learning from industry experts and Avondale leaders. The students will discover how to build a business and how their aspirations can empower their community.

Youth Startup Week is welcoming students in grades eight through 12 who are between 14 and 18 years old. The city is offering six scholarships for the program.

To apply for Youth Startup Week, students must submit a 200-word-or-less letter of intent, which should explain why Avondale should give them scholarship for the program. Applicants must also submit a video that is 1 minute or shorter explaining how they plan to change the world. The letter should be in Microsoft Word or PDF format. The video should also have a YouTube link. Both submissions should be sent to slopez@avondale.org by Oct. 24.
