Cochise County has launched a project to restore 480 acres of farmland using a “holistic management” framework and will conduct an accredited training program to help support such a practice on county-owned land.

The uncultivated farmland is about 1 mile north of the Arizona on the Palominas/Three Canyons Recharge Network property, according to a press release. The county will use Holistic Engineering and Land Management LLC (HELM) for the restoration, which will be centered around the idea that considers humans, economies and the environment.

As part of the restoration project, HELM will also hold a training program beginning in January to help educate citizens about the use of holistic land management. The intensive hands-on program will also include online training and will be held from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the following dates:

Dec. 12-13  – Fundamentals of Holistic Management

Jan. 9-10 – Holistic Financial Planning

Jan. 23-24 – Planned Grazing

Feb. 6-7 – Holistic Land Planning

Feb. 27-28 – Ecological Monitoring

Sessions are limited to 20 students. The first class may be taken at a cost of $300, and the cost for all five courses is $1,500 per person.
