The Phoenix suburb of Buckeye recently ranked among Arizona’s top places both to live and to raise a family, balancing its recent rapid growth with overall public safety, according to a press release.

Scoring among top state locales on two separate lists for 2016, Buckeye had the third lowest crime rate in the state as rated by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the lowest rate of violent crimes per capita.

Additionally, Buckeye was named one of the state’s top five sites for bringing up a family, according to Elite Personal Finance, a Houston-based credit rating and reporting agency.

“Buckeye’s population increased ten times over the past sixteen years, from around 6,500 in the year 2000 to estimated 66,629 residents in 2016,” Elite Personal Finance stated in its report.

Low crime rates are no small accomplishment for the city, the release noted. Buckeye has been named the seventh fastest growing city in the United States, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

“The ability to reduce crime in Buckeye while our population increases is a testament to the entire Buckeye Police Department,” said Mayor Jackie Meck.

Buckeye is approximately 30 miles west of Phoenix and is considered its westernmost suburb.
