Coconino County Assessor Armando Ruiz recently presented information to help senior homeowners learn about property tax assistance and exemptions during a recent community meeting.

Ruiz, who held a public meeting at the Page Community Center, focused on the county’s programs designed to help seniors with property taxes, according to a press release.

Ruiz discussed the tax assistance and exemptions that are available for senior property owners, particularly the county’s Senior Property Valuation Protection Program, which he says offers significant benefits to those on fixed incomes.

“Seniors that meet the eligibility requirement for the program have their property values frozen for three years, meaning the value used to calculate taxes for their home cannot increase whatsoever for three years, which has the effect of reducing the amount of taxes low-income Seniors pay,” Ruiz said in a statement.  “This program offers a significant benefit to our constituents who are on a fixed-income and need help with their property tax bill.

During the presentation, participants were also able to meet assessor office staff, who assisted many seniors with their applications for the various programs.
