Blood donors can save a life and win a car during the city of Casa Grande's blood drives this summer.

Those who donate blood through Aug. 31 will have a change to win a 2017 Volkswagen Passat R-Line, donated by Valley Volkswagen. 

Blood donors are the lifeline for many recipients, including 2-year-old Nathan Johnson, who has received 40 transfusions in his life so far, according to a press release.

"To all the donors out there, I just would like to say that you have gone above and beyond to save my son’s life and the lives of others," Johnson's mother said in the release. "Without transfusions, I would have lost my little boy. From the bottom of my heart, I thank God for donors for saving my baby and for continuing to save him every month!”

Over 500 donors are needed each day to help the patients in the 64 local hospitals. These patients include premature babies, trauma victims, those suffering from cancer, leukemia or heart disease, among others.

This is the eighth annual blood drive the city has hosted, the release states.
