A lack of monitoring of social media and emails along with elder abuse were some of the topics discussed at the 2017 Arizona Realtor Convention.

One of the main concerns at the convention was the lack of security on websites, social media and emails, according to a press release.

“Agents are pirating from other agents their listings on Facebook and LinkedIn, and putting it on their own sites. Then they are actually picking up the clients when the listing agent is the one that originally put the information on Facebook,” Holly Eslinger the vice chair of the National Association of Realtors Risk Management Committee said during the Risk Management Exchange breakout session.

Eslinger said that it was an issue that has moved from being local to Arizona to a national concern.

Another major concern discussed at the breakout session was elder abuse.

John Mijac, a member of the Tuscan Association of Realtors Risk Management Committee, said that the risk committee had spent a lot of time researching the issue.

“Eventually, we came to the conclusion that what we needed to do was educate our membership in a deeper fashion," Mijac said. "We put together an education program and put that out for membership in the form of a class.”
