Local leaders are advocating for Gov. Doug Ducey's proposal for results-based funding for Arizona schools ahead of final negotiations over the state budget.

The proposal argues that schools with higher performance, such as improved testing and graduation rates, receive high funding than underperforming schools, according to a Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry press release. The proposal will not just cover local schools but could expand to charter schools as well.

The proposed funding will give all schools an equal opportunity for improvements, according to the press release. Under the plan, low-income schools receive almost double the funding of higher income schools.

The proposal was designed to help schools that show improvement retain the funds they need to sustain academic quality. In the past as schools have improved, funding has lowered.
