Youth and young adults ages 14-25 can apply for Pima County’s Summer Youth Employment Program to earn money or school credits.
The county teams up with several area agencies to offer job placement in two sessions: May 30-June 30 and July 3-28. Those applying for either session must be at least 14 years old by March 30. The deadline to apply is March 10, the county said on its website. An assessment test is part of the application process as well.
Applications are available online at www.pima.gov/summeryouth or at area high schools, community centers and libraries.
Up to 1,500 young people will be employed during the summer program, which pays $10 per hour, the posting said. All sorts of jobs are available, from clerical and retail positions to outdoor labor.
The summer program also offers away to earn elective high-school credits by learning skills in math, reading and writing. Work ranges from 20 to 40 hours per week for four to seven weeks, depending upon the work or education program selected, the posting said.
Participants will also attend a one-day “employability skills” workshop to learn about good work habits and what to expect from employers on the job.
