Salt River Project is offering tips to lower energy bill during the holiday season, when ovens, stoves and holiday lights can all mean increases in energy bills.
SRP recommends signing up for text or alerts to keep your weekly bill projections on target. The SRP alerts let you know when you've exceeded the target usage. Look for the eNotes section on myaccount.srpnet.com for more information.
SRP also suggests opening curtains during sunny weather to heat the home, then close them at night to keep the heat from escaping.
Seal leaks around windows and doors with weather stripping and caulk. Sealing even a minor leak can reduce heat loss.
Swap out incandescent holiday lights for new Energy Star LED light strands. The LED versions uses up to 90 percent less energy than the old-fashioned light strands.
To save energy while baking or cooking, cook several items in the oven at the same time. Turn off the oven 15 minutes before the completion time, without opening the oven door. Use glass baking dishes rather than other materials, as glass retains heat better and helps food cook faster.
