Shop and give locally this holiday season to help employ neighbors and keep city services strong, according to a Tempe announcement.
Shopping locally means, on average, 43 percent of your money stays in the community, compared to just 13 percent when shopping at large chain stores. Tempe encourages residents to buy gifts locally and to donate to local charities to help support the community in many ways.
Those outside of Tempe can implement similar shopping strategies and donate within their own communities to show support.
Some gift ideas to go along with the local Tempe theme: a gift certificate for Tempe Town Lake Boat Rentals, which has pontoon boats, stand-up paddleboards, sunset cruises and kayaks; tickets to plays at Tempe Center for the Arts; gourmet treats from Decio Pasta, Sting and Linger Salsa or Laura’s Granola; or an art class through Tempe Recreation.
Additionally, available local charities include Lost Our Home Pet Foundation; Tempe Community Action Agency; Tempe Community Council; and Tempe Historical Society and Southwest College Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences Sage Foundation (SCNM).
