The city of Tempe said cooking a turkey can create a significant amount of grease, whether the bird is roasted or deep-fried.

Instead of pouring the turkey grease down the drain or into the garbage, the city suggests recycling it or other cooking oil by dropping it off at four convenient locations through Jan. 4.

Tempe residents can drop off used grease or cooking oil at the Household Products Collection Center, 1320 E. University Drive; Fire Station No.2, 3025 S. Hardy Drive; Fire Station No. 3, 5440 S. McClintock Drive; or Fire Station No. 4, 300 E. Elliot Road.

Residents can pour used fryer and cooking grease directly into the barrels at the collection locations or simply put containers of grease on a spill-proof surface next to the collection barrels.

For more information about the grease-collection program, call 480-350-4311 or visit www.tempe.gov/slashthetrash.
