In conjunction with Pollution Prevention Week, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is also celebrating 25 years of helping businesses with pollution-prevention goals.
“As one of our nation’s first pollution prevention programs, ADEQ’s P2 Program benefits both our participants and our state by supporting production processes that improve environmental quality and economic competitiveness,” ADEQ Director Misael Cabrera said. “Now in our 25th year, we’re demonstrating that ADEQ’s P2 Program in Arizona is creating an environment in which new processes and technologies are helping industry to reduce pollution while also enhancing operational efficiency and business productivity.”
ADEQ is celebrating one pollution-prevention theme each day through Friday. The themes are: Monday: Source Reduction: Smart Shopping; Tuesday: Transportation: On the Road to Cleaner Air; Wednesday: Food: Too Good to Waste Challenge; Thursday: Water and Energy: Conserve Our Resources; and Friday: Out With The Bad Air, In With The Good.
ADEQ’s P2 Planning Program has required eligible businesses to set goals to protect the environment. Many notable achievements have resulted. Such as nearly 3 billion gallons of water conserved; 82 million points of hazardous-waste generation were prevented and 892 million kilowatt hours of electricity were saved.
ADEQ invites everyone to be a part of Arizona P2 Week by visiting ADEQ on Facebook and Twitter to learn about pollution prevention.
