Fourteen nonprofit organizations in Arizona and the Four Corners area will receive more than $1.2 million in STEM-supported grants from the APS Foundation, the charitable arm of Phoenix-based Arizona Public Service (APS).

Since 2012, supporting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and other education-based programs has been the main focus of the foundation.

“Arizona is blessed to have a number of local organizations doing impactful work in STEM educational areas,” Tina Marie Tentori, executive director of the APS Foundation, said. “These grants will help move their efforts forward, including encouraging and preparing Arizona students to pursue future jobs in technology, clean energy and other STEM-related careers.”

The largest grant went to Arizona Science Center. The center received a $385,000 grant for its Professional Learning and Development Rural Communities Expansion Project, which helps integrate STEM curriculum into rural school districts.
