U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) congratulated Tucson-based Portable Practical Educational Preparation Inc. (PPEP) for being awarded a grant award of more than $2 million from the U.S. Labor Department’s National Farmworker Jobs Program.
“I am gratified to see such a significant grant being awarded to support farm workers in my home community of Tucson,” Grijalva said. “These vital funds help migrant and seasonal workers, who are some of the most vulnerable among us, live more stable lives. We all benefit from the hard work that brings fresh food to our stores and kitchen tables but often overlook the fact that the people working those fields face extreme challenges and hardships. This grant will help provide vital opportunities and housing for men and women who otherwise struggle from harvest to harvest. I congratulate them on this award and look forward to the tremendous impact they will have with these funds.”
PPEP is a nonprofit organization that provides education, training and life skills for farm workers and residents of rural areas.
