Consumers dealing with Scottsdale-based Saguaro have filed complaints about the work-from-home company with the Better Business Bureau.

Complaints submitted to the BBB allege Saguaro does not fulfill promises of earning thousands of dollars by stuffing envelopes and requires hundreds in upfront fees. The company hires home workers to mail advertising letters and claims to pay $10 for each letter stuffed and returned to them, but consumers said that isn't the case.

Complainants from other states allege Saguaro charges a one-time startup fee from $99 to $399, to be refunded after earning nine checks through Saguaro. The company’s website, saguarosite.com, said the fee depends on the consumer’s desired earning potential -- the more money a person desires to make, the more the fee. Some consumers said they do not receive the promised materials after paying the fee and had difficulty contacting the company.

When consumers call the business using its listed phone number, a recorded message does not allow an option to leave a message or to call a different number. They also said emails sent to info@saguarosite.com are not answered.

In April, BBB asked Saguaro to substantiate claims made on its website relating to warranties or guarantees of 100 percent satisfaction. As of June 9, Saguaro has not responded to the BBB.

In the past year, BBB has received four complaints, one review and more than 1,600 inquiries concerning Saguaro, with more than 500 inquiries in the last 30 days. Saguaro has denied allegations in BBB complaints, but responses have not been satisfactory to consumers, nor the BBB. The company has failed to resolve the causes of complaints and, in BBB’s opinion, Saguaro has not made a good-faith effort to resolve the issues, earning an "F" rating with BBB.
