Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Scott Soldat-Valenzuela said the chamber's public policy committee will monitor a pending new overtime rule that doubles the threshold for workers that will be eligible for overtime.
The overtime rule issued by the Obama administration slated to take effect De3c. 1 will double the annual salary cap for eligibility from $23,600 to $47,476. Anyone earning less than $47,476 a year will be required to be paid overtime if they work more than 40 hours a week or receive a pay increase by Dec. 1. The Obama administration feels this will help balance the scales for middle-class workers that have been denied overtime.
Congress could employ the Congressional Review Act or pass the Workplace Advancement and Opportunity Act, which would roll back the new rule once a new president takes office, but the efforts would likely be met with a presidential veto, Soldat-Valenzuela said.
