Arizona will receive nearly $26 million in federal conservation funds for wildlife and habitat restoration and conversation and enhance outdoor recreation facilities.
The funding, announced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is the result of a $1.1 billion package authorized by the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration and Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration acts, established in 1937 and 1950 respectively. The programs are funded through taxes on outdoor gear and fuel in an effort to have individuals pay to conserve the environment they interact with.
The Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act along has been credited with expanding the range of wild game and with raising more than $2 billion for wildlife conservation efforts.
