The Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry said it is opposed to several proposed ballot measures including raising the minimum wage.

The Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry said Tuesday it is opposed to several proposed ballot measures on issues that include the minimum wage, solar power and publicly financed election campaigns.

Chamber President and CEO Glenn Hamer voiced the organization's opposition to a proposal that would raise the minimum wage to $12 and hour over the next four years and give local governments the power to pass their own minimum wage rules. Hamer said higher wages for workers would hurt the economy, particularly if they are crafted by local governments.

"Allowing cities to implement their own wage ordinances only compounds the pain, creating a new bureaucratic headache for businesses with operations in multiple jurisdictions, while hurting the young, the inexperienced, and those attempting to break in to the labor market," Hamer said.

Hamer also said the chamber is opposed to solar energy mandates, limits on the compensation of hospital executives, limits on the amount of private campaign contributions and expanded disclosure requirements for campaign donations.
