Mohave Electric Cooperative is reducing its renewable energy surcharge on monthly bills.
Mohave Electric Cooperative (MEC) customers, both residential and commercial, will be seeing a savings after the utility’s recent reduction of its renewable energy surcharge on monthly bills was approved last month by the Arizona Commission Corporation (ACC).
The fee appearing on household statements will be reduced from $1.05 to $0.75, while commercial consumers will pay $11.75 instead of the previous $16.50. The surcharge is applied toward approved initiatives designed to boost the renewable energy industry, with the long-term goal of gaining fiscal independence.
Based in Bullhead City, MEC has programs that include a variety of incentives for solar, wind and other forms of green energy to benefit schools, civic buildings and nonprofits.
A new solar energy plant in Fort Mohave completed in 2015 produces 5 megawatts of power, and MEC encourages photovoltaic and wind operations with a 5-cent per watt incentive for systems of 50 kW maximum and a ceiling of $2,500.
MEC’s overall 2016 renewable energy plan was approved by the ACC along with the surcharge reduction. MEC submits its renewable energy plan to the ACC annually.
