The Arizona Corporation Commission recently approved an application submitted by EPCOR Water to provide wastewater services in a 4,417-acre area of Maricopa County close to Luke Air Force Base and the Loop 303.
The area, slated for new development, is delineated by Peoria Avenue and Camelback Road to the north and south, and bordered by Cotton Lane to Litchfield Road on the east and west.
With 20 parcels in that area, the first parcels expected to be developed are three residential developments known as Granite Vista, Cordillera and Allen Ranches.
EPCOR is the largest privately owned and publicly regulated water and wastewater utility in Arizona, serving 135,000 water and 50,000 wastewater connections in the Phoenix Metro area, Lake Havasu City, Bullhead City and Tubac.
“We provide water and wastewater services to a large portion of the West Valley, and the new Luke 303 wastewater district … is a natural fit with our operations,” Shawn Bradford, EPCOR’s vice president of corporate services, said. “With the Arizona Corporation Commission’s approval, we are very pleased to be able to move forward with building out the infrastructure that will pave the way for new homes and businesses.”
The Arizona Corporation Commission is responsible for final decisions on granting or denying utility rate adjustments. Its Utilities Division, one of the commission’s nine divisions, makes specific recommendations to assist the commissioners in reaching decisions regarding public utility rates, utility finance and quality of service.
The commission’s Utilities Division is also responsible for researching and developing utility issues, providing information and evidence in commission proceedings dealing with utility applications, and monitoring the quality of utility service and the rates approved by the commissioners.
EPCOR Water, with Arizona facilities based in Phoenix, owns and operates power plants, electrical transmission and distribution networks, and water and wastewater treatment facilities in Alberta, British Columbia, Arizona and New Mexico.
